What do the numbers on the tyre mean?
For example: 195/65 R15 91T XL
- 195 – Tyre width in millimetres.
- 65 – Tyre height or profile expressed as a percentage of the tyre width. In this example, it is 65% of the tyre width, or 195 mm x 65% = 127 mm.
- R – Indicates a radial tyre.
- 15 – Rim diameter in inches.
- 91 – Load index, i.e. the maximum permissible load per tyre. In this example, 91 = 615 kg load per tyre.
- T – Speed index. The maximum permitted speed with these T tyres is 190 km/h.
- XL – Reinforced tyre (XL class). Tyres for passenger cars designed for higher loads and pressures than standard tyres.
- If the profile of the tyre is 80, it may be left blank. So, for example, 155/80R13 = 155 R13.
